Edward IV Silver Penny
Light Coinage
Bristol - Type VII
mm. Crown
0.58g 15.6mm
Spink - 2045
North - 1592 Rare
Obverse:
EDWARD DI GR[A REX ANGL]. Facing crowned bust, crosses by neck.
Reverse:
VILLA BRISTOW. Long cross pattée dividing the legend, with three pellets in each angle.
Good fine or better and extremely rare, with only ten examples across all Bristol classes recorded by Greenhalgh. Greenhalgh lists this coin as reading BRISTOLL and subsequently classifies it as type VIII; however, upon inspection in hand, it appears to read BRISTOW, with a possible T over C and a reversed E for O, as seen on die B.
