HENRICVS REX III. Crowned facing bust.
Reverse:
HEHRI OH LVHDE. Voided long cross with three pellets in each angle.
A small scratch by the crown, very fine, sharp detail and toned.
Reportedly Ex Colchester Hoard
The 1969 Colchester Hoard is one of the largest and most important finds of long cross pennies in Britain, containing 14,065 coins and several mid-13th century forgeries. The British Museum acquired 1,550 of the coins, while other museums also obtained smaller selections. Nearly 12,000 coins were returned to the finders and sold through numerous auctions in 1971 and 1972.
