Obverse:

H[ENRI REX]. Crowned bust facing, wearing armour with mantle and sceptre in right hand. Beaded mantle.

 

Reverse:

[- - ]E ?R/P? ON [C? -]. Large cross potent with small cross potent in each angle.

 

A slightly creased flan, a few marks and a little off centre otherwise very fine and toned. A rare bust variety with the beaded mantle edge.

 

Ex Andover Hoard - number 82

 

The Andover Hoard was discovered between Wednesday, 22 August 2018, and Tuesday, 28 August 2018. It was spread across an oval area measuring 10 to 15 feet, with a few stray coins found no more than 20 feet away. The hoard consisted of 105 silver pennies: 104 of Henry II 'Tealby' type and one of Henry I. The find was registered as Treasure case number 2018T600 and PAS HAMP-5275FE, and was returned to the finder after being disclaimed as Treasure.
