Iceni Silver Unit
Plain Pole / Eyeless Annulets
1.37g 13.8mm
ABC - 1525 var
VA -
Spink - 433
COI - 16b/17a
Obverse:
Head r. herringbone hair, [large oval eye, pellet above].
Reverse:
Horse r. double forearm, solid head, pellet mane, single pellet and pellet in ring of pellets above, plain pole below.
The obverse weak, otherwise very fine and extremely rare. The two types, COI 16b (possibly unique, with only one recorded specimen) and 17a (excessively rare, with only three recorded specimens), share the same reverse die features as this coin and can be distinguished only by their obverse dies. Unfortunately, this obverse lacks the diagnostic features required for secure attribution, though the coin is at least extremely rare in either case.
