TIMOR DOMINI FONS VITE MDL. Oval shield with garniture, E R beside.
A small striking split otherwise good fine and extremely rare.
Bispham considered Bust 6, struck during the second issue coinage, to be extremely rare. Regarded as transitional, these were typically struck to the 6oz silver standard and dated MDL for 1550. They are recorded from both the Southwark and Tower mints, although examples from the latter, with mintmark martlet, as on the present coin, are considerably rarer. Bust 6 was subsequently adopted as the standard portrait for the third (very base) period shillings, when the silver fineness was further reduced to just 3oz.
