Obverse:

CAROLVS D G MAG BR FR ET HIBER REX. Large bust left with value mark XII behind.

Reverse:

EXVRGAT DVS DIS[S]IPENTVR INIMICI. Declaration RELIG PRO LEG ANG LIBER PA in three lines, three plumes above, date 1644 and OX below.

Ragged flan and a few light marks otherwise about very fine and toned. Struck from the same reverse die as Brooker 944, this obverse die is more interesting, very rare and unrecorded by Morrieson. Featuring a small crown, and unlike the lozenge stops typically found with this reverse type, the punctuation on this obverse is characteristic of dies prepared for Shrewsbury and early Oxford, having a single pellet stop after CAROLVS, followed by colons. We have traced another example of this obverse, paired with a 1644 reverse with lozenges by both the date and the OX signature, from the 2020 Lindsey Hoard.
