Reportedly from the Blackhills Hoard, 1911.

The Blackhills Hoard was discovered on 1st April 1911 by a tenant farmer, while ploughing at Blackhills Farm, Kirkcudbrightshire. The hoard consisted of 2059 Edwardian silver pennies, which had been buried in a wooden bowl. The hoard was declared treasure trove and was passed into the hands of the Royal Exchequer. The National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland in Edinburgh retained 8 of the coins and is thought to have returned the rest to the landowner, Mr Whitby. In 1993, a parcel of 380 of these coins were rediscovered in a solicitor’s office and were subjected to a detailed study. The hoard has a suggested deposition date of 1332.
