Obverse:

EDWARD DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC. Facing crowned bust in tressure of arches, no quatrefoils at neck.

Reverse:

POSVI DEVM ADIVTORE MEVM, CIVITAS LONDON. Long cross pattée dividing the legend, with three pellets in each angle.

Very fine or better, toned and an extremely rare variety known only from a single obverse die. Blunt and Whitton Type VII-5.

Edward IV groats omitting the quatrefoils by the neck are usually encountered under type Xb and XI with mintmark long cross fitchée/sun. For type VII, this is extremely rare and noted by Buck in his publication on Medieval English Groats as "the British Museum has a specimen which omits the quatrefoils by the neck". The same example is noted by Blunt and Whitton for their paper ‘The coinages of Edward IV and of Henry VI (restored)’ published in the British Numismatic Journal Volume 25 (1945-48).
