Ex Tetney Hoard (number 265 - this coin)
The Tetney hoard was discovered in May 1945 at Tetney in Lincolnshire, approximately 10 miles south of Grimsby, by Morris Walter Houlde. The hoard comprised 420 silver pennies, the majority of which were of Edgar, with 292 examples, alongside 72 of Eadwig, 45 of Eadred, and a small number of exceptions. The coins had been deposited in a chalk container with a detachable lid, which had been broken in two by a plough during cultivation. It likely had a deposition date of the mid-10th century.
