Richard I Silver Penny
Class 4b
Fulke on London
1.44g 18.2mm
Spink - 1348C
North - 968/2
Mass - 1099
Obverse:
HENRICVS REX. Facing crowned bust holding sceptre. Chin and whiskers made of pellets, single crescents for hair.
Reverse:
FVLKE ON LVNDI. Voided short cross with quatrefoil in each angle.
Good very fine and toned. An interesting example of this crude die cutting, particularly evident in the sinking of the reverse cross pommées. Possibly struck during the early stages of John’s reign.
