At the time of Lessen’s publication in the British Numismatic Journal, only three examples were known: one in his collection and two held in museums. A further example existed, recently in the Dr J. Hulett collection (the current Spink/SovR plate coin), which was sold at DNW in June 2018 for £1,860 (inc. Bp.). The Lessen example, also sold through DNW, achieved £2,232 (inc. Bp.) in July 2019. Another example was added to the corpus when a coin was found near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, in September 2023 and sold by us in January 2024 (reference E0433). This newly discovered example extends the known number further.
Found near Louth, Lincolnshire, October 2025.
