Obverse:

CAROL II D G MAG B F ET H REX. Large crown over HANC DEVS DEDIT 1648 in three lines.

 

Reverse:

POST MORTEM PATRIS PRO FILIO. Castle gateway, OBS to left, canon on right and flag dividing PC above.

 

Good fine, rare and historically interesting. Same dies as Brooker 1235.

 

This coin was struck in the besieged castle during the two months after the execution of Charles I. The reverse legend translates to 'After the death of the farther for the son' and is one of the earliest coins to be struck in the name of Charles II.
