Obverse:

HENRIC DI GRA REX ANGL. Quartered shield of arms of England and France with lis above all within tressure of eight arches. Mascles and saltire stops.

 

Reverse:

EXALTABITVR IN GLORIA. Florated cross with lis terminals, lions between, lis in centre,  all within tressure of eight arches. Mascles in legend with leaf on inner circle of reverse under R of GLORI.

 

Previously pierced and skilfully plugged otherwise very fine and exceedingly rare with only 2 other examples traced.

C. A. Whitton, in his papers "The heavy coinage of Henry VI” for the British Numismatic Journal notes these known examples "R.C.L., ex Bruun Sale 427; also C.E.B. See also Ready Sale 434”. Subsequently this is the Schneider example, C E Blunt and this coin. We cannot locate any evidence of one having been in the Blunt collection.

This coin was plugged sometime after the Ryan sale and before appearing in the Spink Numismatic Circular in 1993. (On the E of HENRIC and subsequently G of GLORI on the reverse)
